Overview

Traits are a characteristic of all creatures. Creatures that can form civilizations (humans, orcs, etc) can obtain traits from random chance when spawned, and by interacting with the world (like eating food). All creatures can be directly given traits by the player in the Trait Editor. Many traits also modify the creature's stats and/or its appearance.

Players can use the File:IconRainGamma10x.pngGamma Rain, File:IconRainOmega10x.pngOmega Rain, or File:IconRainDelta10x.pngDelta Rain powers in the Other Various Powers tab to give multiple creatures traits. This also gives them the File:IconDivineScar10x.pngScar of Divinity trait.

Locked Traits

To unlock traits in the Trait Editor, the player must click/tap on a creature and hover over any new traits that are over a blue circle, or complete the Achievement it’s locked behind if it can’t be unlocked by hovering over it.

Giving traits to a creature will also give it File:IconDivineScar10x.pngScar of Divinity, which makes them unable to unlock The King of Kings, The Accomplished, or The Demon achievement.

Hidden Stats

You may notice a few stats that don't show up in-game when viewing traits. Some of these stats (such as "supply timer modifier", "opposite trait modifiers", "same trait modifiers") have hidden effects:

  • Same and opposite trait modifiers affect the "Traits" opinion of kingdoms by comparing the traits of kings and village loyalty with leaders.
    • The same trait modifier is the amount of opinion/loyalty change due to the two parties both having this trait,
    • The opposite trait modifier is the amount of opinion/loyalty change change due to one party having this trait and the other party having an opposite trait.
  • Supply timer modifier affects the cooldown of villages supplying resources to other villages in the same kingdom. It has a default value of 1. See Trading Mechanics for details.

Other hidden stats (such as "rationality", "dodge" and "accuracy") do not seem to do anything at the moment, but they are included here for the sake of completeness.

Birth & Inheritance Chances of Traits

Birth and inheritance chances only apply to intelligent units. The game will evaluate if a unit will get a trait through this process:

  • Goes through the entire trait list and rolls for birth chances for each trait
  • Checks the first (or only) parent's traits and rolls for those traits inheritance chances (if they have any)
  • Checks the second parent's traits and rolls for those traits inheritance chances (if they have any)

A creature cannot have opposite traits at the same time. For example, Bloodlust and Pacifist cannot be present at the same time. When the player attempts to add a trait via the trait editor, any existing opposite traits are automatically removed. However, it is possible to give opposite traits to a single unit via methods outside the game, i.e. by editing the save file or using mods.

Trivia

  • Using the Mega Heartbeat trait we can confirm that worldboxians have a heart rate of 12 beats per minute (in real life it is usually 60-100 with 40 being a low point).
  • Units can survive a hit from the "Mark of Death" trait if they have 99% armor (max) and 100,001 health (not achievable in normal gameplay). The less armor a unit has the more health they would need to survive a hit, 10,000,001 health is needed if a unit has no armor. This also applies with the madness trait except it does 100,000,000 damage when applied to certain units.
  • The poisonous trait is a recolored version of the meat food icon .
  • The trait editor was added in the Everythingbox update.
  • Traits were added in version 0.4.141
  • There is an unused trait icon that can be found in the game files called "iconVermin". There is also a hidden description for the trait: "Tiny creatures. A snack for bigger animals" (most likely for creatures that classify as insect meat. See the Creature Diets page for more info)
