Temperature
While not usually visible in game, temperature is present in worldbox as a hidden property of tiles and units.
The temperatures of units and tiles are independent and do not affect each other. I.e. walking on a tile with a high temperature will NOT increase the unit's temperature, and vice versa.
Unit Temperature[edit]
Each unit has a unique temperature value, which is 0 by default. There are two ways to change a unit's temperature:
- File:IconTemperaturePluse10x.pngTemperature (Hot) - each action increases unit temperature by 5
- File:IconTemperatureMinus10x.pngTemperature (Cold) - each action decreases unit temperature by 5
Units' temperature will gradually return to 0 over time.
Changes in unit temperature may give units status effects:
- When a unit's temperature reaches 300, the unit gets the burning status effect, and the temperature is reset to 0
- When a unit's temperature reaches -200, the unit gets the frozen status effect, and the temperature is reset to 0
Units' temperatures gradually change to 0 over time. Specifically, every 0.02-0.04 months, the unit's temperature will change by 1 degree.
Tile Temperature[edit]
Each tile also has a unique temperature value, which is by default 0, and has a maximum value of 404. There are two ways to change a tile's temperature:
- File:IconHeatRay10x.pngHeat-Ray - randomly increases the temperature of all tiles in its range of effect by 1-3
- File:IconLightning10x.pngLightning - large lightning spawned by the player increase the temperature of all tiles in its range of effect by 9
While there are no ways to manually decrease a tile's temperature, all tiles' temperature will gradually drop to 0 over time
Changes in tile temperature cause various different effects:
- When tile temperature > 5, every time its temperature further increases,
- Frozen tiles are unfrozen
- Water evaporates from water-containing tiles, leaving a smoke effect
- Grey Goo tiles are set on fire
- When tile temperature >10, every time its temperature further increases,
- "Burnable" tiles are set on fire, removing biomes at the same time
- If there are units on the tile, the unit will receive 50 damage every time the temperature further increases, also obtaining the burning status effect Units with the fireproof trait will not receive the burning status, but will still receive damage.
- Burnable buildings on the tile are set on fire
- TNT and Timed TNT are detonated; unlocks the Don't Try This at Home achievement
- When tile temperature > 20, every time its temperature further increases
- Any explosives still remaining are detonated
- Any remaining biomes are removed
- When tile temperature >30, every time its temperature further increases,
- Soil, high soil and roads are turned into sand
- Lava tiles are converted to the highest lava level (level 4 lava)
- When tile temperature >100, every time its temperature further increases,
- Sand is turned into (level 4) lava
- When tile temperature >160, every time its temperature further increases,
- Hills and mountains are turned into (level 4) lava
