The Modern Update is a common concept idea that has been around for a very long time. Even though Maxim, the head developer, stated there will never be a Modern Update, many people, mostly on the subreddit, still ask for it constantly.
Reasoning[edit]
Destroys or at least hinders the greater vision for the game. Would cause the developers to shift from planned features to accommodate modern progression and would be difficult to balance. The game will be kept in a medieval fantasy theme.
Maxim in response to a request for modern update: "I would love too, but there's just too much content to add to fantasy stuff. With modern civilization - both times will be bland, instead of one being awesome"
Example of a Modern Feature Already in the Game[edit]
Civilizations can obtain shotguns from cybercore minions (assimilators) and blasters from aliens. Civilizations used to not be able to make these weapons, but with the release of the beta for 0.50 cultures can influence the ability to make these firearms.
