Eating Mechanics
File:Achievements 4Races 10x.pngCivilizations
Civilizations gather and eat food in a different way when compared to animals. Instead of eating food directly from bushes, flowers, or animals they deposit food into their village inventory where the player can view info about various foods. Once civs need to eat food they will take food out of the village inventory and then eat whatever food they are given (villages will give favorite foods to units if avaible, if not than a random food is selected). Eating a food restores varying amounts of health and hunger, and some foods have a chance to give various traits and status effects. This does not happen as in-depth with animals. Civ units also each have their own favorite food which can effect their mood. For more info on foods see the Food page.
- Civs start with 50% hunger
- Civs will not eat if they are above 10% hunger
- If units have the gluttonous trait they will eat two pieces of food at the same time

Animals have arguably simpler eating mechanics. Depending on what species an animal is they can eat berries from bushes, flowers, crops, vegetation, meat and insect meat.
- Eating berries will restore an animal's hunger by 100% and will heal 10% of their health +1. This will also remove berries from berry bushes
- Eating flowers, crops or vegetation will restore an animal's hunger by 100% and will heal 10% of their health +1. This will also destroy the flower, crop or vegetation the animal ate from
- Eating meat is achieved by dealing damage to prey. Hitting the prey restores hunger equivalent to the predator's damage, and when the prey is killed, it also restores 10% of their health +1. This activates on hit or kill of a creature that is a meat or insect meat source by a unit that can eat meat and/or insect meat respectively. Note that hunger is not capped at 100 as long as the prey remains alive, so carnivores can exceed 100 hunger if they hit but do not kill the prey

- Crabs will burrow when a non-crab is near them unless they have less than 50% hunger
- Crabs will restore all their hunger and 10% of their health +1 periodically. The only condition being they can't be burrowed
- Penguins, crabs and turtles are "water-eating" animals. When they are hungry, they will go to the water or the shore to look for food. They do not need to attack creatures or consume any resources. Each time they eat, they will recover 100% hunger. Among them, crabs will forage on the shore, while penguins and turtles will go to farther waters to forage.
Other Info

- Creatures hatched from eggs start with 50% hunger
- If hunger is at 0% the regeneration trait will not heal units
- If hunger is at 0% units will start to take small amounts of damage over time
- Creatures can exceed 100% hunger
