Description[edit]

Dragons are giant winged reptiles that usually have a red body color and belly and wings that are a pale white color. Dragons use their wings to move across oceans with ease onto different lands whenever they aren't sleeping. But wings aren't their only strength, they have extremely large area of effect attacks that leave their targets with severe burns if they survive.

Dragons usually only attack when provoked. When attacking the dragon will set a large area ablaze and have a small force effect that push units back.

In their free time from destruction, dragons fly in search of free space on the map. After they find a space, it sits on the ground and either takes off and flies further, or folds up and sleeps displaying the "zzz" icon. During the sleep phase, the dragon is harmless, but it will wake up if it takes damage.

Dragons can naturally spawn during the "Dragon from far lands" disaster that can happen during the Age of Chaos, Dark or Despair.

Behavior[edit]

The behavior of dragons is one of the most complicated of all non-civ creatures in worldbox.

Dragons have two main modes of attack - unit attacks and city attacks.

Unit Attack[edit]

When a dragon is attacked by a unit, the unit is listed as an attack target. A dragon can have multiple units as attack targets at the same time.

When attacking, the dragon will preferentially attack the unit closest to it. It has two types of attack:

  • "Land attack" - if the target unit is within dragon's land attack range, the dragon performs a "land attack". It lands down on the terrain and creates a hemisphere of fire with a radius of ~ 9 blocks.
  • "Slide attack" - if the target unit is not within the dragon's land attack range, but is within the slide attack range, the dragon performs a slide attack, breathing out a line of fire 4 tiles in width and 35 tiles in length, also gaining the invincible status for 5 seconds. This attack is performed only when flying, and dragons can use this attack to the left or right. Additionally, for every tile within the slide attack range which has a unit on it, the dragon has a 50% chance to perform an additional slide attack; therefore it is common to see dragons slide multiple times when attacking.

Creatures with Fire Proof trait will still take damage from dragon attacks.

Turning on the "ShowDragonTargetting" option in the debug menu highlights the land attack range and slide attack range (left / right) of dragons in different colors.

City Attack[edit]

When a dragon is attacked, if the attacking unit is a civilized unit belonging to a city, that city is listed as a target city, and the dragon will launch 4-12 rounds of attack against the city. A dragon can only have one target city at the same time.

When attacking a city, the dragon randomly selects a location nearby a building as a target.

When preparing to attack, if the dragon is flying and there are possible targets within the slide attack range (including enemy units or civ buildings), then it has a 50% chance to launch a slide attack. Otherwise, if the dragon has landed, then it will launch a land attack.

Sleeping[edit]

Various actions of dragons increase its "sleepiness". Every time the dragon flies up, flies a certain distance, performs a slide attack, lands, or performs a land attack, its sleepiness is increased by 1.

When the dragon's sleepiness value reaches 11, and it does not have an active target, it will land, fold up and sleep for a period of time ranging from 2-16 months. Sleeping resets the dragon's sleepiness value to 0, and the dragon can restore some health while asleep. The dragon will wake up if it takes damage, but this does not affect the resetting of the sleepiness value.

Traits[edit]

Dragon Traits[edit]

Zombie Dragon Traits[edit]

Dragons can be infected with zombie virus. After becoming a zombie, Fire Proof and Fire Blood traits turn into Acid Proof and Acid Blood. Zombified Dragons will breath out acid instead of fire, which can cause major destruction to your world. Zombie and normal dragons will fight each other. Zombie dragons will never sleep.

  • Dragons and Fire Elementals are friendly towards each other
  • Dragons are mention and displayed in the tutorial bear's script
