Gems are one of the rarest ores. This is in part due to the player not being able to spawn them in.

Obtaining and Usage

Gem Ores can spawn rarely in Arcane Desert, Candy, Enchanted, Jungle, and Mushroom biomes. Gem Ores can also be spawned in by mines even in biomes where gem ore doesn't naturally spawn.

Gems are required for all ring and amulet crafting recipes.
