Lava is a power and a special type of tile. It is closely related to fire and heat.

Lava Types

There are four types of lava in worldbox:

Lava can change between levels by using the Temperature power:

Lava continuously damages all units in it (except demons and fire elementals), each time dealing 150 damage. Units with the fireproof trait are not immune to this damage.

Lava was also probably designed to set units on fire; however, due to some issues in code, it will only set on fire piranhas and demons who have the burning feet and fireproof traits removed.

Lava Generation

Lava can be generated from different sources:

Lava Spread

When the Eternal Lava world law is disabled, lava can spread and cool naturally. The time it takes for different levels of lava to spread is different:

  • File:TileLava310x0.png Level 4 lava takes at least 0.6 months to spread
  • File:TileLava210x0.png Level 3 lava takes at least 2 months to spread
  • File:TileLava110x0.png Level 2 lava takes at least 2 months to spread
  • File:TileLava010x0.png Level 1 lava can only cool, and cannot spread. It takes at least 6 months to cool after which it becomes hills. However, it will not cool if there are level 2 or higher levels of lava in adjacent positions.

When lava spreads from a tile, the lava level in the original tile decreases by 1. The target tile of the spread will change according to the following rules:

  • If the target tile is a level 1-3 lava tile, then the spread occurs, and the target tile's lava level increases by 1.
  • If the target tile is a level 4 lava tile, then the spread will not occur.
  • If the target tile is a non-lava tile which can "contain lava" - these tiles include hills, mountains, and infernal biome tiles - the spread will not occur.
  • If the target tile is a non-lava tile which cannot contain lava, then the target tile will be converted to level 1 lava.

When lava of levels 2-4 attempt to spread to a tile, it will unfreeze the tile or set it on fire.
